The hard part was never the money. It's that Mom says she doesn't need anything, means it, and you still want her to open something with her name on it.

Her name sits right on the front of the mug, cut separately from 1/4 inch birch and raised off the surface so you can feel the edge of it with your thumb. Mom, Grandma, Nana, Aunt, or whatever the grandkids actually call her. Below it, the rolled bills tuck into a ring of openings around the base and stand upright in a full circle. Above it, a swirl of whipped cream with marshmallows, a candy cane hooked over the rim, holly and a bow at the handle, snowflakes painted across a soft blue mug.

It's the one under the tree she picks up first because she spotted her name across the room. Cash she'll actually spend on herself, in a package she's not going to throw away with the wrapping paper. Plenty of them end up back on the shelf next December with the rest of the decorations.

Cut from 1/4 inch premium Baltic birch and hand-painted in our family workshop, one at a time. Slight variations are part of what makes it handmade.
